I think Starbound is a very interesting case study into iterations and the idea of less being more. But if you had to choose between Starbound and Terraria you should get Terraria mainly because of the better progression system. Generally all the things you can collect like the fossils or petsĪll in all Starbound is a good game. On the other hand the game has some features that are very good:

If the planets atmosphere is dangerous build an upgrade to fix thatīuild all the new weapons, armor and craftingstation upgrades and repeatīecause of this repetitive progression the game got boring at some point and I did not finish it. Get teleported to a prebuild world and fight through it The thing that annoyed me the most were the repetitive main quests.

When they released the Full Version I played it again and I was impressed by how much stuff they added and changed but that did not last long. I played it for a few hours and then stopped because it was boring. I bought the game when it was first released as an early access title. Happy I bought it, but will never touch it again. Not enough content and the gameplay loop wasn't very rewarding. Don't even get me started on how boring Armour was in Starbound.īuilding is very intuitive, being able to use blocks as foreground (solid) and background (texture) is great! Lots of furniture to use for decoration and the sense of scale is much better than objects in terraria. Nothing you found in chests really changed up your playstyle the way that the equipment does in terraria. One to five pieces of ore, a consumable, and maybe a weapon or shield. but compared to terraria it didn't satisfy me. I am not a game designer, I cannot provide more information on how I think they could actually improve combat. AI of enemies was cookie-cutter and slow, and weapon drops were one of 5 or 6 effects and tacking on a color for elemental damage. The most frustrating thing about the game in my view is that the combat was so boring. I think the most concise way I can review the game is that despite enjoying my time playing through the content, I will never touch it again after completing the main game.
